From Competitions to Education
  • AIDA is one of the first worldwide freediving organizations and actually the most known.
  • Set up in France more than 25 years ago by freedivers for freedivers.
  • AIDA, it is also a high-quality Educational Program.
  • AIDA organizes courses from beginner to Instructor levels.

Since 1992, AIDA promotes competitive Freediving worldwide, setting rules for competitions and records. AIDA also trains International Judges who are present at every competition to validate every single performance made by the freediving athletes, verifying that the AIDA International Regulations are respected by all.

AIDA 1

INTRODUCTION

level

No matter what your background in diving is, the AIDA 1 Freediver Course will open your mind to a whole new underwater experience. 

In AIDA 1 Freediver Course, you will learn the very basics theory of Freediving.

What is Freediving?

What kind of equipment is needed?

How to prepare yourself for a breathhold dive including breathing, duck dive, finning, buddying and safety techniques?

What are the main risks and dangers and how to counter them?

 

You will learn the basics of freediving in a confined water (usually pool) as well as open water (sea or lake). AIDA 1 is recommended for students with either no previous freediving experience or who would like to try freediving over one day and still get a qualification.

Think of the AIDA 1 course as an introduction to freediving 

Minimum Performances requirements:

Course format 

1 full day, breaks into :

Theory

1 Pool Session (STATIC)

1 Open Water Session

On the successful completion of the course, you will receive an AIDA 1 certification.

Prerequisites: 

18 years of age (16 with a guardian's consent). Do not have any medical conditions

Be able to swim 100m non stop

You can start AIDA 2, as a complete beginner. Our AIDA 2 Freediver course is for confident snorkelers or swimmers who want to learn all the basic theories and techniques of freediving.

We will teach you proper breathing techniques and the skills and knowledge to participate in freediving to depths of up to 20 meters.

This is probably the most challenging and rewarding AIDA course. For those who are already confident in the open water, this course is your starting point.

 

Our course builds a foundation of good technique and safety so that you can buddy with other AIDA 2 freedivers.
 

Minimum Performances requirements:

Constant Weight dive to 16m

Static apnea of 2min

Dynamic apnea of 40m

Exam 75% passing rate

Course format 

2.5 to 3 days, break into: 

two theory / one exam

one breathing and relaxation 

two confined water (STATIC & DYNAMIC)

three open water 

Prerequisites: 

18 years of age (16 with a guardian’s consent);

be able to swim at least 200m non-stop without fins and at least 300m non-stop with a mask, fins, and snorkel.

Do not have any medical conditions

AIDA 2

BEGINNER

Our AIDA 1 and 2 package freediver course is by far the most popular way to get into freediving. This format is specially made for people who are wondering if they are more suitable for AIDA 1 or more suitable for AIDA2.

So if you have any doubts, it would be simple to join our AIDA 1 and 2 packaged course.

It combines the 1st and 2nd levels of the AIDA educational ladder.

Our course is designed to make you discover and develop your potential as a freediver.

Minimum Performances requirements:

Constant Weight dive to 16m

Static apnea of 2min

Dynamic apnea of 40m

Exam 75% passing rate

Course format 

3 to 3,5 days break into: 

two theory / one exam (AIDA 2)

one breathing and relaxation 

one confined water (STATIC & DYNAMIC)

four open water 

one static or open water session as an extra training

Prerequisites: 

18 years of age (16 with guardian’s consent);

be able to swim at least 200m non-stop without fins and at least 300m non-stop with mask, fins and snorkel.

AIDA 1and 2

INTRODUCTION and BEGINNER

level

This course goes with more details into the theory and training concepts of Freediving which will allow you to understand the physiology and techniques behind deep freediving. It is designed to cover the necessary skills and knowledge for a recreational freediver to be able to safely freedive with or without a guideline. The aim of the course is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to independently plan and participate in freediving activities with similarly experienced freedive buddies.

You will also cover training concepts, planning a dive session, safety and rescue, the physics of freediving, equalisation techniques, and how to prevent injury while freediving.

Minimum Performances requirements:

Constant Weight dive to 24m

Static apnea of 2min45

Dynamic apnea of 55m

Exam 75% passing rate

Course format

3 days, break into: 

three theory / 1 exam

breathing and relaxation

two confined water 

(STATIC & DYNAMIC)

four open water

Prerequisites: 

Have completed the AIDA 2 Beginner Freediver course or qualifying certification from another freediver organization - cross over evaluation will be performed and it is not included in the course fee.

AIDA 3

ADVANCED

level

You will learn how to perform a more advanced equalization technique and more about how to stay fit for Freediving. The AIDA 4  is the highest level a recreational freediver can achieve. The AIDA 4 can be combined with the Competition Freediver course for those who want to explore the challenge of competitive freediving. 

Theory will cover deep freediving and deep equalization technique will be taught.  

You will know more about cross training and nutrition for freediving. 

You will practise strectching sessions in order to prepare efficiently your deep freedives.  

You will also do some variable weight during the course and practise more constant weight freedive.

We will coach you to improve your confidence and technique during the deep freedives.

Minimum Performances requirements:

Constant Weight dive to 32m

Static apnea of 3min30

Dynamic apnea of 70m

Exam 75% passing rate

Course format:

4 days, break into: 

four theory / 1 exam

breathing and relaxation

two confined water (STATIC & POOL)

four open water

Prerequisites: 

Have completed the AIDA 3 Advanced Freediver course or qualifying certification from another freediver organization - cross over evaluation will be performed and it is not included in the course fee. 

Do not have any medical conditions.

Have a First Emergency Responder (EFR) certificate or equivalent (e.g. Red Cross, Nurse license...), not holder than 2 years
